How to rid your house of pet odors, stains, dander and other allergens.

    Last updated 2 years ago

Pet dander, among other things, is a major contributor to allergies, and it also provides sustenance for dust mites-microscopic organisms that feed on old skin particles that humans and pets have shed. Because we cannot see the dander or dust mites, it is easy to forget that they are, but every once in a while you might notice these particles floating in the air when the sun shines through your window. These airborne particles settle in our upholstery and carpeting, and what doesn't settle is surely circulated through our ventilation systems, which spread the air (along with everything in it) throughout our homes. Utilizing a combination of upholstery cleaning services, carpet cleaning services, and air duct cleaning services can make a big difference in improving the health of your home atmosphere.

Steam cleaning is a great way to maintain the true cleanliness of your home, and it is also a worthwhile way to increase longevity of your carpet and upholstery, but what many people do not consider is how beneficial it is for aiding in allergy relief. The high temperature of steam cleaning penetrates through the surface of your upholstery, and carpet to remove pet dander (dead skin shed by our pets). In addition to removing allergens, steam cleaning also kills fleas, flea eggs, and mold that live beyond our sight. Because these particles settle throughout our homes, the best way to eliminate them is by both cleaning the air we breathe, and the surfaces on which they settle. Not only does this kill and remove such allergens, but it also helps extend the life of our furniture, and carpets. While upholstery cleaning and carpet cleaning services do not require pet stain removal and pet odor removal, these treatments can often be added in as a part of the steaming process.

    Steaming versus vacuuming?

    Steaming versus vacuuming

You may be wondering why hiring someone to steam clean your carpet would be more beneficial than simply vacuuming and caring for your carpet yourself. Understanding the difference between vacuuming and steam cleaning is an important key to understanding why many choose steam based carpet cleaning services. There are two main differences between the vacuum and the steam cleaner, as far as household cleaning is concerned. The steam cleaner uses heat and moisture to clean at a deeper level, whereas the vacuum is a dry process that can be used for basic daily cleaning.

If you consider the difference between beating the dust out of rug and using the pressure of water from a hose to force the dirt out, you begin to understand the difference between a clean appearance and a truly clean surface. Vacuuming utilizes pressure to remove dirt and debris from the surface area being cleaned. While some vacuums vary in suction strength or the types of rollers they have, a basic vacuum cleaner generally has rollers on the bottom. These rollers have brushes wrapping around them, which sweep and loosen the dirt on the surface of a rug so it can more easily be pushed into the vacuum bag. Vacuuming only removes the dirt and debris on the surface of a rug, and its rollers are limited to reaching only the loose dust beginning to settle near the surface.

Steam based cleaning, on the other hand, reaches beneath the surface fibers of a carpet to provide a deeper carpet cleaning. Steam cleaning can be done with or without the addition of cleaning solutions to clean your carpet. The heat of the water, which is boiled inside the steam cleaner, helps break up the dirt and debris that normal vacuum suction cannot extract. After the steam has been applied to the carpet, the steam cleaner is used to extract the moisture. As the moisture is extracted, so too is the dirt and debris that the steam has loosened. The extraction process also leaves the carpet mostly dry, which removes the risk of any mold growth by reducing the amount of time that the carpet remains wet.

    Remove the allergens!

    Last updated 2 years ago

Steam cleaning is a great way to remove the allergens living in your upholstery and/or carpets, but it is also important to have your air ducts cleaned as the ventilation system pushes the air, and anything in it, throughout your home. Well-maintained air ducts can also help reduce energy costs, as well as allergy symptoms. The video below, in highlighting how pet dander, dust mites, and other allergens can live in our air ducts, furniture, and carpets, illustrates the significant impact that upholstery cleaning, carpet cleaning, and air duct cleaning can have on the quality of air we breathe.
